The Crossed Orbweaver (Neoscona
crucifera) is an orb-weaver spider that comes in many different shapes and
sizes. It is usually shades of brown or orange and has a cross shape on its
abdomen.
This species is common in the mountains, open woodlands, and shrub lands of San Diego County and builds large webs on buildings, fences, and patios. It is mostly active at night.
This spider may bite if disturbed or harassed, but the venom is harmless to humans. The male Crossed Orbweaver is generally smaller than the female, but similar in color.
